Wellness and Sick Pet Exams

Are your pets overdue for annual wellness exams or do you have a sick pet that urgently needs to be seen?  We will start by thoroughly reviewing records from your previous veterinarian and recording a detailed medical history.    We then record vital signs and measurements and perform a complete physical exam from head to toe.  This includes examination of the ears, eyes, teeth, skin, lymph nodes, abdominal organs, auscultation of heart and lungs, and evaluation of the musculoskeletal and nervous systems.

Pet Vaccinations

Are you confused about what to vaccinate your pets for and how often vaccines are really necessary? We provide all the vaccines your dogs and cats need and will discuss the pros and cons of each, based on your pet’s lifestyle.  We can even provide more unusual vaccines like the rattlesnake vaccine for hiking dogs and the leptospirosis vaccine for dogs traveling outside of Los Angeles.  Please save all reminder e-mails, texts and postcards from prior veterinary visits so we can review them and make sure you understand what is due and why it is needed.

Skin and Ear Treatments

Allergic skin disease is one of the most common disorders we diagnose in dogs in Los Angeles.  We offer allergy testing and immune treatment as well as symptomatic treatment including safe oral treatments, hypoallergenic diets and medicated shampoos.  We treat yeast and bacterial infections in the ears with thorough cleaning, assessment of the eardrum and application of long acting ear treatments that eliminate the need for daily drops.  We teach you how to maintain good ear health with regular cleaning to reduce recurrences of ear problems.

Eye Treatment

Whether your pet has a traumatic injury to an eye or an infection, we do testing to determine which medication will provide comfort and resolution of the problem.  If a referral to an ophthalmologist is necessary, we will help you choose a local specialist and book an appointment promptly.

Urinary and Digestive Disorders

Bloody urine, more frequent urination, and straining to urinate are common signs of urinary tract infections or bladder and kidney stones in dogs and cats.  We are able to collect urine and do a basic screen for urinary tract infections at home. In some cases, we will submit urine to the lab to isolate bacteria, allowing us to choose the most effective antibiotic.

Hospice Care

We are aware that end of life and quality of life issues are painful and confusing.  A visit to your home allows us to advise on ways to provide physical comfort, adequate nutrition and pain relief.  We will review a quality of life scale which will help you evaluate when to consider humane euthanasia if your pet has a terminal illness.

In Home Pet Euthanasia

We recognize that this is one of the most important and confusing decisions you will be faced with in the life of your pet. We are here to advise you through the process. The actual visit will start with us tranquilizing your pet to reduce anxiety and fear. We will coordinate in advance for either individual or group cremation.

Update as of November, 2021: Euthanasia is now offered to existing clients only. Crematory services are no longer provided and must be arranged by the client to meet the veterinarian at the time of euthanasia. Please contact Dr. Kent to request a euthanasia appointment.

Animal Health Certificates

Are you planning to fly with your pet or ship your pet to a new location? We are accredited to sign health certificates for both foreign and domestic travel. We will help you understand the requirements for travel to a specific destination and will ensure that all steps are completed in the time limit required by country you are traveling to.

Microchip Implantation

Is your precious pet at risk for being lost or separated from you? We recommend microchips; for all pets. The microchips we use for both domestic and international scan recognition.  They are inserted under the skin from a syringe, similar to any injection.  We will provide the associated tag and registration forms to allow your pet to be traced back to you after scanning.
